What is HackMiami?
HackMiami is a non-profit organization dedicated to technical, artistic and social collaboration. We are a collection of technology enthusiasts, graduate students, security professionals and programmers who call Miami home. We collaborate across disciplines for the benefit of cultural, charitable and scientific causes. We create, learn and teach as a collaborative group.
Our Mission Statement & Specific Purposes
Our Mission: The mission of HackMiami is to provide an environment where people can come together and work/share technological ideas and . Specifically, we:
* Create a suitable space for technical and social collaboration. * Collaborate on all forms of technology, culture, and craft in new and interesting ways. * Apply the results of our work to specific cultural, charitable, and scientific causes. * Freely share our research and work, using what is learned to teach others. * Recruit and develop talented members dedicated to these purposes.
Organization
HackMiami is a Florida Non-Profit Corporation, incorporated on March 1st, 2009. Our file number is XXXXXX. We were organized exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We are in the 501(c)(3) application process and intend to become a 501(c)(3) public charity as soon as possible. Governance
HackMiami is governed by its bylaws. It is a non-profit organization that is sustained by volunteer project committees.

Projects:
Arduino:
Arduino is a physical computing platform based on a simple I/O board and a development environment that implements the Processing/Wiring language. Arduino can be used to develop stand-alone interactive objects or can be connected to software running on a computer (e.g., Adobe Flash, Processing, Max/MSP, Pure Data, SuperCollider).
Pen Testing:
A penetration test is a method of evaluating the security of a computer system or network by simulating an attack from a malicious source, known as a Black Hat Hacker, or Cracker. The process involves an active analysis of the system for any potential vulnerabilities that may result from poor or improper system configuration, known and/or unknown hardware or software flaws, or operational weaknesses in process or technical countermeasures.

Where does Hack Miami meet for now?
HackMiami currently meets at various locations in South Florida. A list of events is available here http://hackmiami.org/events/ We are actively looking for a permanent space.
What does Hack Miami need?
Space:
HackMiami is looking for a space to setup research projects and teaching / project space.
Equipment:
Hack Miami is looking for electronic components, old servers, old routers, old switches, and other interesting items that can be used in the further education and growth of the collective.
How can you help out Hack Miami?
Attend meetings, give presentations on your research, and collaborate with fellow hackers in our labs.
